All LGUSD Parents: re: school closure at Daves Avenue

Dear Parents:

We were directed by the Santa Clara County Public Health department
earlier this evening to close Daves Avenue for a minimum of two
days. We had one child identified as a probable N1H1 "swine flu"
virus case, and the student was last in school on April 29. The
County guidelines dictate a 7 day closure from the last day of
attendance. Given the circumstances, we have decided to remain
closed through Friday to ensure we minimize any further exposure to
the virus.

We have no other reported cases in the district at this time; the
principals have been monitoring absences on a daily basis at our
schools and we have no reason to suspect the spread of the disease
elsewhere in the district.

However, we would ask that you be especially vigilant about watching
for symptoms in your children, and if you see flu-like symptoms please
have your children evaluated by a doctor immediately. Daves Avenue
parents will be receiving more specific instructions from the County
Public Health Department.

Principal Susan Von Felten and I will be at Daves in the morning to
meet with our school employees. If you have questions or concerns
please feel free to contact me by email at this address or by
telephone at 335-2003. Marla Rodriguez, our Director of Student
Services, is also available in the district office by telephone or
email at 335-2000 or mrodriguez@lgusd.k12.ca.us.

Thank you for your attention to the facts herein. I know I can count
on the community for its best wishes for a swift return to good health
for our Daves Avenue family.

Sincerely,

Richard Whitmore
