A day off with the boys...

Aug/12/09

Kenneth's road test @ 10am over Capitola. Thomas' physical therapy @ 5pm over Santa Teresa. Perfect time to spend a day with the boys =)

Sean spent his whole night working on his posters, and caught up his video game playing until early morning. Mom woke up several times and wondering why this kid still awake and finally gave up and went back to bed around 2 am.

Woke up around 7:40 am, getting ready for Kenneth's big day. Called and left message to Thomas' doctor requesting more exams. Drove to Capitola around 8:30 am. Arrived DMV around 9:15 am. It was foggy and rainning. The whole town was still asleep.

While waiting, called insurance agent. Ok, if the new driver is not going to drive the 1st year in college down south, he does not need to be insured. WOW!! What a good news =)

Kenneth got a happy guy for his road test. He looked around the car and asked Kenneth to do the hand signals. Kenneth did his "chinese hand signals" - Left arm up for Left, Left arm left for right, Left arm down for slow down. He joked about Kenneth's answer and told him the correct way. Then I was told to leave the car. It was 10:03 am.

Waiting out side of DMV, wondering if Kenneth would pass or not, I decided to practice my breathing. Every car driving around, I thought it was Kenneth. Then, I saw the silver bmw. oh no... It's too short... They stayed in the car for a while. Then the guy came out and told me, "He Past." "Really?" "He is good."... During the short 10 min, they chatted about the woman with a hat who did Kenneth's road test over Los Gatos, and the nice old lady asked Kenneth to register to vote, he worked over Los Gatos for a couple months and he had a 18 years old son going to college this year as well... 10:18 am.

Went to lunch with Thomas and Kenneth, got house special fried noodle for Sean. Then went to Star One Credit Union in Cupertino.

Kenneth deposited a new check from grandmom just received from this morning, $400 cash, and "wall money" transfered from mom's account. Boy, this kid had almost 10k!!. Then we talked with Anna Yam, converted his minor account to regular money market savings account. Got his debit card and found out student credit card was actually better than debit card. Debit card withdraws money from checking account every transition. If money in checking account is not enough, it will withdraw $100 from savings account each time with $2 fee each time. Credit card can be automatically paid off from savings account. So, Kenneth got his 1st credit card and got his auto pay arranged. Platinum Visa with $750 limit.

While waiting, bored Thomas folded many business cards. We chatted about Yogiyo cards, Pokemon cards and Magic cards with Anna. She was surprised that the kids were still playing with all these cards since these cards were hot when she was a teenager. Anna was from San Francisco. Business Major from SF state. Gave us lots of good tips about banking.

Went to donut shop next door, bought 1 donut for Thomas, and got 1 free.

Sean woke up late and went to Border's while we were out.

Thomas called his friends and told them he was not going to their home any more since he went to a lunch lasted 3 hours and he got a doctor appointment within an hour.

Called Kaiser about my in patient issue. $250 per day, medical details? need to talk with the doctor.

"Hi, Sean, you are home. How's your day?" "Good. Can we go to Trader Joe? I need to get some Muscle Milk." "Thomas and I are going to Kaiser very soon. You need to wait for dad." "Ok." "Oh, Mom, I want to do acting." "What? What do you want to do?" "Acting. We decide to take some classes and I want to take Drama." "Oh, that's nice. You will have Mr. Wong." "But I need to drop either science or math." "Really? Can you take 1 more class?" "No, I already have 6 periods." "Oh... May be physics. Since it's nice to continue taking Japanese and you need to keep your math going otherwise it's harder to pick up next year." "Ops, Thomas, it's 4:15, we need to leave." "Ok."

Traffic was very light, and we arrived there early. Waiting in line. Sitting down... Falling asleep... Finally, it's our turn. Kelly was her name. In the office, there was a Chinese calendar. I wondered if she could speak Chinese. Kelly asked Thomas to do some movements she taught him before. Looked at his back and taught him some more movements. Thomas was such a huge person in her small office... his arms touched the bed and other things... his legs touched the wall... Finally, Kelly said Thomas was getting better and was "graduated" from physical therapy. WOW!! What a nice thing to know. However, I was wondering if Thomas was really getting better since he just took another x-ray last week and it was the same still.

Tomorrow, all 3 boys will have dental appointments in the afternoon. Kenneth will discuss about his wisdom teeth with Dr. Fong. Then we will be on our family vacation over CANADA next week =)
