Accent Reduction Class?

After so many years, I finally decided to take an Accent Reduction Class from a local community college. Why did I decide to take such a class after over 20 years living in the US? I think I am ready for it.

The teacher is a Russian lady with a high Russian voice. Russian Accent? Is she good enough for this Accent Reduction Class?

My first session was very fun and educational. As a language major and knowing many languages, the instructor offered lots of information and comparison between different languages.

Spanish and Russian are Phonetic languages - 1 letter, 1 sound. (means Spanish is easier?)
“a” is the common sound for a non-stressed vowel: ie. infini(a)ty.
Most English vowels are “e” sound, so English speaking people looks smiling when they talk.
Most French vowels are “O” sound…
“r” for Americans, no “r” for British…computer, actor…

While listening to her during the class, I realized I was learning the similar things when I was in middle school. I was day dreaming, but I am learning now. :-)
