Thomas claimed that he should have a half birthday for a while already. He's been checking the dates and making sure his 1/2 birthday is coming soon. He's been talking about it every day.
And then, it was his 1/2 birthday.
Thomas reminded Dad in the morning before the three brothers went to school.
Thomas reminded Mom right after the three brothers came back from school.
"Can I have my 5 and half birthday?" Thomas asked. Mom didn’t hear Thomas.
"Am I going to have my half birthday today?" and he asked again.
"When is it?" MOM asked. "It's today. Are you going to celebrate my five and half birthday today? Please. Please. Please," Thomas asked with his famous smile and with his hands holding together.
"OK. You may have your half birthday," finally, MOM agreed.
Then he asked again, "Am I going to have a cake?" Mom was busy checking the mails. So he stopped asking.
Then he asked again, “Am I going to have a half birthday cake?” MOM called DAD and asked DAD to get a half ice cream cake home.
Then he asked again, "Are you going to give me a gift?" Mom was busy checking the big brothers' homework. So he stopped asking.
Then he asked again, "Are you going to give me a half gift?" Mom was busy watching the big brothers playing piano. So he stopped.
Finally, MOM was free, and he asked again "Can I have the small Lego upstairs as my half birthday gift?" While Thomas was not asking, he was busy working also. "Wait until I am done with the dinner," Mom said. So, he went to the playroom.
MOM finished preparing dinner (fried rice with lots of stuffs in it.) Mom went upstairs and picked one of the Lego boxes from the dressing room (where MOM hide things from the kids but all the kids knew what were in the room).
MOM found the wrapping paper and wrapped the gift HALF way.
"Can we go to grandparents house for my half birthday party?" Thomas started asking again. Thomas grabbed the phone and started dialing. "What's the number?" Thomas asked again. "532," MOM started citing. "I know. I know. I did it already!" Thomas exclaimed. "Hum? OK. 9629, " Mom stated. Thomas dialed.
"Any body answering the phone?" "No. It's Hummmm. Hummmm. Then Hummmm again." Thomas answered. "Hang it up. They are not home." MOM explained.
"Are we going to grandparents house tonight?" Thomas worried. "I am not sure. They are not home. Let's wait for a while and try again," Mom explained.
DAD was home. "Did you get my cake?" The half birthday boy asked. (Well, it's official now. Thomas would have a half birthday for sure.)
"Yes." DAD answered.
"Where? Where?" The Big Brother and Little Big Brother asked.
The big brothers were so surprised that Thomas actually made it so far. "Don't touch the cake! It's my cake!" Thomas claimed.
"Are we going to have the cake now?" Thomas asked again.
"Wait until we find grandparents," Dad replied.
"When are they coming home?" Thomas wondered. "I don't know," Dad wondered too.
"When can we have the cake?" Thomas asked again. "Wait until grandparents home," Dad decided.
"When?" Thomas really wanted to have his half birthday party started.
"Wait until 8:30." Finally, Dad announced.
"What are the numbers for eight-thirty, MOM?" Thomas asked. "8, and 3-0." MOM answered. Thomas found his spot just right in front of the clock and sit down. "I am going to watch the time," Thomas said. "It's 8:19," Thomas told everyone.
Grandparents were not home at 8:30. Thomas went to the drawers and found the candles. He spotted some animal candleholders. Thomas started putting candles on the candleholders. He wanted 5 and half candles. But there were only 6 large candles and 4 smaller non-stop candles. So the three brothers decided to have 5 large candles and 1 smaller candle.
Thomas found the matches from the drawers. And was going to start the fire. "Thomas, you can’t do that. Only adults can start a fire!" Little Big Brother warned. MOM took over the matches that she could never find, and lighted the candles and burned her fingers. They took pictures and sang the song "Happy half birthday to you".
Thomas was trying to blow the candles. All 5 large candles were out. Only the small one went out then went back again. Thomas blew and blew and blew but the half candle just refused to let go. Finally, MOM took some of the ice cream and covered the last half candle up.
The Big Brother cut the cake. Thomas opened his half-wrapped present and started working on the Lego pieces.
“Thomas, are you going to eat the cake?” Dad asked. “Nope. You may have the cake.” Thomas was too busy reading the instruction for his new Lego car. Dad took over the ice cream cake and finished several pieces.
-The End-
